Retail as Unusual: Retailing in a time of extreme uncertainty
Publicerad: 2023-06-19
At a 60-minute webinar, researchers and practitioners discussed the main findings of a new report that explores the challenges of retailing in a time of extreme uncertainty. Viewers learned about the most disruptive challenges and how to mitigate them.

Things are far from usual in the world right now. We have experienced several years in which business as usual has been anything but usual. This macro-environmental turbulence has been described as a perfect storm or a herd of black swans. Many are wondering when things will return to normal. A new report from the Centre for Retail Research suggests that they might not. Business as unusual might, indeed, be the new normal. How should retailers manage this uncertainty?
In the Retail as Unusual report, the most relevant and disruptive macro-environmental challenges are identified and the consequences for retail organisations are discussed. The branches analysed ranged from grocery to gas stations. Each chapter has relevant suggestions for how retail organisations can deal with a specific macro-environmental challenge, such as inflation, supply chain disruption, drought, technology shortages, and a potential ban on fossil-fuel vehicles.
